Gary began his career in a foreign-owned and multinational company based in Singapore, specializing in regional sales for industrial products and automation & control businesses responsible for Asia territory in the oil & gas and power generation market. Earlier in 2000, he took on a new challenge as Director for a Singapore-based Mechanical & Electrical Construction Company to start a new Industrial Business Unit focusing on oil & gas, petrochemical and power generation market in Singapore and other ASEAN Countries.

During his tenure of over a decade, he has successfully developed the Industrial Business Unit into a multi-million dollar business with industrial product solution, system integration and turnkey engineering, procurement and construction capabilities.

After decades of holding various key managerial and leadership positions in multiple companies, he has decided to resign from his last employment as President & Managing Director. He then established his own holding company, GSC Venture Group Pte Ltd, in February 2010 and commenced his journey as an entrepreneur.

He embarked on a business venture by setting up a joint venture entity in Singapore with a European Technology Company focusing on the Oil & Gas and Power market segments in the Asia Pacific region. Since then, GSC Venture Group Pte Ltd has developed a humble track record with various business partnerships.

Currently, he focuses his time on managing the joint venture entity, RMA Fiventures, as President and CEO, where GSC Venture is one of the active shareholders in this entity, and most recently, as the CEO of MEDS.

Stanislav Borisov

Stanislav is an international energy industry professional with over a decade of experience in originating and managing decarbonization, cleantech and energy projects.

In his previous role as Senior Manager – Decarbonization Solutions at EcoLabs – Centre of Innovation for Energy @ NTU, Stanislav supported innovative cleantech start-ups with deployment and demonstration of their novel solutions in real-life environment thought green tech programs and strategic partnerships with corporate partners, investors and government agencies. Prior to that he worked in Project Management roles in France, Moscow and Siberia, managing multimillion energy projects and teams of up to 70 engineers.

Cherif Assaf

Mr. Cherif Assaf is the Program Director at ERI@N (NTU) for two important projects related to Net Zero: Smart Multi Energy System and Distributed Energy Resources management. Cherif brings with him more than 25 years’ experience in technology leadership as Senior Corporate Vice President at Schneider Electric, managing Sales, Strategic Marketing and Acquisitions and as Business Transformation Vice president at Philips Lighting, plus R&D and entrepreneurial experience from various parts of the world.

Currently, he is the Chief Strategic Officer of MEDS Group Pte Ltd, leading the strategic plan for providing consulting, optimization, and CO2 certification in the exciting challenge of the Net Zero transition.

Thomas Plocher

Thomas Plocher has more than 25 years of professional experience in managerial positions in international companies. His responsibilities encompass all administrative functions, especially in the areas of human resources, controlling and finance.

Within the RMA Group, Mr. Plocher is responsible for mergers and acquisitions and thus actively shapes the structure of the group, to which RMA Fiventures in Singapore has belonged since 2015. After joining us in 2008, the RMA Group has grown from eight companies to 27 to date.

Napat Ratanakul

In 2014, he co-founded a successful software house in Bangkok, Thailand, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. In 2019, Napat transitioned to Microsoft Singapore, further honing his expertise in managing large-scale projects.

With a strong foundation in software engineering and an MBA degree, Napat bridges the gap between technical innovation and effective business solutions. His diverse industry experience, spanning industrial agriculture to finance, positions him as a valuable leader in the tech landscape, adept at driving results through data-driven strategies.

Hoo Leong Yik

In 1997, he began his career as a qualified engineer. Subsequently, in 2001, he started his career in a Product, System Integration and Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning company, serving the gas, power and petrochemical Industry. In 2012, he became one of the founders of Fiventures Pte Ltd. 

Sam Kok Jye

Mr. Sam has over two decades of experience in the oil & gas industry, mainly in after-sales service and project management. He began his career in 1996 as a Field Service Engineer in the oil & gas exploration industry. In the past 20 years, he has worked with clients in after-sales service and project management for analytical systems, heat tracing systems, fuel gas conditioning skid package and turnkey engineering, procurement construction contracts in Natural Gas, LNG, Power and Petrochemical Industries. In 2014, he joined Fiventures Pte Ltd as a shareholder. 

Mohd. Faizal Johari

Over the last 19 years, Mr. Faizal has vast experience serving the oil & gas, gas transmission & distribution and power generation industry. In 1999, his career began when he joined a major crude oil producer and supplier of natural gas in Malaysia. Then, he developed his portfolio in managing multidisciplinary engineering and commissioning activities in various projects around major continents, mainly in Plant’s Upstream and Downstream applications. In 2013, he joined Fiventures Pte Ltd as a shareholder.

Dobrin Dimitrov

Dobrin is an international maritime and energy industry professional. Holding STCW COC1 certification (Chief Engineer, Unlimited power capacity).

Along his 30 years professional career, he dealt with complex state of art maritime, offshore, and onshore facilities collaborating with Fortune 500 companies in Japan, the Caribbean and Singapore. Participated in several projects for Hybrid Power plants development (RES+ICE+BESS) and Grid Stability. He was running a start-up in the Dominican Republic as well providing services such as the off-grid net-zero and carbon-neutral project development, execution of Energy Audits, and Integration of IoT cloud-based SaaS products. 

Dobrin got a solid basis to step on when decided to make a switch and dedicate his time and efforts to the energy transition, energy management, and sustainability matters. At his previous role of APAC Regional Manager for Energy Management and Carbon Intelligence SaaS company, he was promoting a sustainable solution through a proper mix of vanguard and mature technologies. He is actively taking part in expert pools, events, and volunteering initiatives related to ESG, SDGs, and a broad spectrum of decarbonization matters.

Prof. Subodh Mhaisalkar

Head of Technology Intelligence Committee

Subodh Mhaisalkar is a Professor in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore.

Subodh is also the Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N), a pan-University multidisciplinary research institute for innovative energy solutions. Comprising more than 250 researchers and 95 post graduate students, ERI@N has built up a critical mass of expertise in Energy Systems, Grid Systems, and Urban Solutions; and has set up more than 60 Industry partnership projects, with global industry leaders BMW, Johnson Matthey, Rolls-Royce, and Volvo.

Prior to joining NTU in 2001, Subodh has over 10 years of research and engineering experience in the microelectronics industry and his areas of expertise and current research interests includes semiconductor technology, perovskite solar cells, and printed electronics.

Subodh received his Bachelors’ degree from IIT-Bombay and his MS/Ph.D. degrees from The Ohio State University.

Assoc. Prof. Alessandro Romagnoli

Co-Founder, Executive Management and Technology Intelligence Committee

Dr. Alessandro is an Associate Professor in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore. Currently, Alessandro is working as the Assistant Dean on Innovation and Enterprise, focusing on technology translation and collaboration with the industry.

As of 2020, Alessandro has been appointed as Co-Director of the NTU-Surbana Jurong Corporate Lab, a S$60M effort looking at Intelligent Urban Solutions, Active Solutions for Sustainability, and Future of Construction and Underground. Alessandro is also the Cluster Director on Multi-Energy Systems and Grids at the ERI@N since 2015.

During his time at NTU, Alessandro established the Thermal Energy Systems Lab @NTU, which focuses on industrial energy efficiency, power generation (from large scale to distributed energy generation applied to micro-grids), and energy systems integration for different energy mixes, including renewables and energy storage.

Focus is being put on Liquefied Natural Gas, Cryogenic Energy Storage (Liquid Air Energy System and Hydrogen), Waste Heat Recovery and Thermal Energy Storage. Alessandro’s work also covers studies on the Cold Economy for Singapore and other developing countries by developing predictive and intelligent algorithms for optimal design, planning and integration of diversified energy systems.

Alessandro’s research activity mainly focuses on serving the industry by providing advice and viable solutions for some of their most pressing challenges, such as reducing carbon footprint, energy efficiency, and energy prosumption. Alessandro also advises the International Finance Corporation (World Bank) on energy-related projects to maximise energy efficiency in cold energy applications. Alessandro has published more than 100 articles in top-tier research journals, and is a recipient of several awards in the academic and research field.

Prof. Stefano Mazzoni

Co-Founder, Executive Management and Technology Intelligence Committee

PhD in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering

Prof. Stefano works as a Senior Researcher at ERI@N (NTU). He has consistent expertise in the optimization of gas turbine-based power plants and multi-energy systems, and developed the DECAPLAN™ software to support the necessary models and calculations.

Prof. Stefano also provides consulting services for companies such as SHELL and the Italian Authorities for Green Market Certifications. Before coming to Singapore, Stefano worked in European R&D projects for IGCC GT Cycles and as a professor at Roma University for two years. He took his PhD in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at the Roma Tre University in 2014.

Prof. Nouredin Hadjsaid

Executive Management and Technology Intelligence Committee

Prof. Nouredine Hadjsaid received a PhD and the “Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches” degree from Grenoble Institute of Technology in 1992 and 1998, respectively. At present, he is a full professor at Grenoble INP/ENSE3, where he conducts research at G2ELAB. He is also a visiting professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech – USA). His main research interests are in the area of “smartgrids.”

He has directed the common academia-industry research center between EDF, Schneider Electric and INPGrenoble (IDEA: Inventer la Distribution Electric de l’Avenir) on smartgrids from 2001 to 2013. He is presently the Director of G2ELAB, the Director of an ENEDIS Chair of Excellence on “Smartgrids”, and the Chairman of Scientific Council of Think SmartGrids France. He is also the vice-chair of IEEE IGETCC (Intelligent Grid and Emerging Technologies Coordination Committee) and the French representative at the International Energy Agency for ISGAN-SIRFN Annex. He was the General Chair of IEEE PowerTech 2013 held in Grenoble-France, and IEEE SG4SC (SmartGrids for SmartCities) held in Paris in 2016. Prof. Hadjsaid has published more than 250 scientific papers in international conferences and journals, as well as authored/co-authored and directed seven books about power and smartgrids.

Prof. Phil Taylor

Technology Intelligence Committee

Prof. Phil Taylor is an internationally leading researcher and expert in energy systems who has worked in industry and academia for over 25 years. In 2013, he joined Newcastle University as Dean and Director of the multidisciplinary Institute for Sustainability, later becoming Head of the School of Engineering. Currently he is Pro-Vice Chancellor in Research and Enterprise division of University of Bristol (UK).

He is Co-Director of the EPSRC National Centre for Energy Systems Integration and Director of the EPSRC Supergen Energy Networks Hub, which brings together industrial and academic partners with other stakeholders to explore the interdependencies of energy networks and related challenges. His previous contributions in the industry include his time in GEC Alstom, EPS (UK), Teradyne and Senergy Econnect, where he designed the grid connection for the UK’s first commercial offshore wind farm. He is a Visiting Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and a Non-Executive Director of Northern Powergrid.
